A giárdia é uma doença que evolui de forma rápida, por isso é importante conhecer bem e saber se seu pet está contaminado. Vamos conhecer um pouco mais sobre o que é a giárdia, como transmite, qual o tratamento e se ela tem cura? Acompanhe este post e saiba mais.
O que é a giárdia?
A giárdia é uma doença parasitária que ocorre em todo o mundo, atinge cães, gatos e outras espécies. Por conta disso devemos tomar cuidado, pois a giárdia é considerada uma zoonose. Ou seja, se o seu pet contrair o parasita ele pode passar giárdia para os humanos da casa. Ela ocorre por conta da ingestão de um protozoário chamado Giardia lamblia. Este protozoário pode viver por meses fora do hospedeiro. Por isso, mantenha sempre seu pet com a saúde em dia, pois é uma das doenças gastrointestinais que mais afetam os cães.
Como pega giárdia?
O animal pode se contaminar de forma direta ou indireta. Sendo assim, a forma direta é quando ele entra em contato com animais infectados. enquanto a forma indireta ocorre quando o animal é exposto a ambientes contaminados ou ingerem água e comida contaminados. Quando os animais são infectados eles passam a eliminar oocistos nas fezes. A partir desses oocistos os outros animais irão se contaminar. Sendo que, desta forma, a giárdia consegue permanecer por meses no ambiente.
Caso seu pet esteja infectado, maneje com cuidado as fezes e lave bem as mãos após o contato,para evitar de contrair o protozoário. Sempre lave bem alimentos que serão consumidos crus, para eliminar os oocistos.
Mas o que são esses “oocistos”? Em uma linguagem simples, são como ovos de giardia liberados no ambiente com as fezes do animal e que podem permanecer intactos no ambiente por muito tempo até que eclodem e contaminam outros aniamis ou pessoas.
Sintomas giárdia em cães
Após o animal ingerir os oocistos, eles vão se instalar no intestino e começar a reprodução. Por conta deste processo, ocorrem lesões em células intestinais e o animal começa a ter dificuldade de absorção de nutrientes e de digestão.
Os sintomas mais comuns da giárdia são:
- Sangue ou muco nas fezes
- Gases
- Diarréia líquida ou pastosa (com odor muito ruim)
- Dores abdominais
- Vômito
- Perda de peso
- Falta de apetite
- Prostração
- Fraqueza
Porém, é necessário sempre realizar um Check Up no seu pet, pois grande parte dos casos de giárdia os pets são assintomáticos. Além disso, saiba que se o tratamento for tardio, seu pet pode entrar em desidratação severa. Tanto adultos quanto filhotes podem se contaminar com a giárdia. Portanto realize sempre exames no seu pet para garantir que ele está saudável e livre de parasitas intestinais. Pois existem muitos casos que o pet é assintomático, mesmo assim ele transmite os oocistos por onde ele passa.
Qual o tratamento
Em caso de suspeita de giárdia, procure um veterinário para que seu pet não piore. O veterinário realizará exames como parasitológico ou kit giardia ou até o PCR para Giárdia que é o mais confiável. A giárdia pode causar a morte do seu pet por conta da desidratação que ela causa. Sendo assim, seu pet poderá ficar internado se o caso forgrave. Por isso é tão importante procurar o veterinário quando seu pet apresentar algum dos sintomas de giardia, a fim de evitar agravamento da doença.
Caso seu pet tenha se contaminado, lembre-se de realizar uma limpeza e descontaminação de todo o ambiente onde ele vive e afastá0lo de outros animais da casa, para evitar a contaminação generalizada.
Giardia tem cura?
É possível curar seu amigo da giárdia. Porém, o ideal é prevenir que seu pet se contamine, para que você, seu amigo de quatro patas e sua família não fiquem doentes. Lembre-se sempre de manter sua casa limpa e longe de contaminações externas. Lave bem os alimentos antes de oferecer ao seu pet.
Prevenção
Sem dúvidas a melhor maneira é prevenir que a giárdia infecte seu amigo ou você. Por isso é necessário realizar a higienização dos locais e tomar cuidado com o que seu amigo ingere. Além disso, existem formas que você pode utilizar na sua rotina para que evite o contágio:
- Lave bem suas mão e evite entrar em casa com sapatos
- Mantenha o vermífugo do seu pet em dia
- Quando for passear, evite que seu cão tenha contato com fezes de outros cães
- Cuidado com a água que é oferecida na rua, pois ela pode estar contaminada
Atualmente contamos com a vacinação para a giárdia. Embora não tenha 100% proteção, ela é importante para em caso de contaminação, o cão tenha sintomas mais leves da doença. A vacinação é feita em duas aplicações para filhotes, sendo que cada dose é aplicada a cada 21 dias. O seu pet estará imunizado após 3 a 4 semanas que concluir o protocolo. Lembrando que o reforço anual é importante manter seu pet protegido.
Se seu pet frequenta ambientes com muitos cães ou tem contato com muitos cães no passeio ou gosta muito de nadar, o ideal é que realize a vacinação, vermifugação e consulte seu veterinário com frequência.
