Plantas venenosas para cachorro

A combinação de plantas e animais em um mesmo ambiente pode ser perigosa, uma vez que muitas plantas oferecem risco à saúde dos nossos pets. A falta de informação dos proprietários é, na maioria das vezes, o maior responsável pela intoxicação por plantas em pequenos animais,uma vez que muitos não sabem quais são as plantas venenosas para cachorro. Na maioria dos casos a via de intoxicação é oral, mas em algumas situações apenas o contato físico já é o suficiente para causar sinais clínicos, em alguns casos apenas o fato do seu animalzinho cheirar uma dessas plantas, já pode oferecer risco a sua saúde. 

Dessa forma a presença dessas plantas deve ser evitada em locais frequentados pelos pets. Por isso, abaixo citamos algumas dessas plantas, mas antes vamos falar sobre os principais sinais de intoxicação por plantas. 

Sinais de intoxicação em cães

Os sintomas de ingestão das plantas venenosas para cachorro, podem ser diferentes e variar de intensidade, dependendo de alguns fatores. No entanto, em geral os sintomas de intoxicação podem ser notados das seguintes formas:

  • Cavidade oral: irritação local (lingua, boca e garganta).
  • Sistema nervoso: tremores, convulsão e ataxia (perda de coordenação).
  • Aparelho digestivo: sialorréia (produção excessiva de saliva), náusea, vômito, desconforto abdominal e diarréia.
  • Sistema cardiorrespiratório: arritmia, taquipneia e dispneia.
  • Sistema hepático: Icterícia, coagulopatia e encefalopatia.

Espada de São Jorge 

A espada de São Jorge é uma planta bastante popular nas casas brasileiras, e fica bem em lugares fechados, sendo facilmente encontrada na sala de estar ou varanda de muitos lares. Porém, o que muita gente não sabe é que ela pode ser muito perigosa para animais de estimação. 

A espada de São Jorge produz substâncias tóxicas até para humanos, como glicosídeos pregnâncios e saponinas esteroidais, que se forem ingeridas, provocam irritação das mucosas, dificuldades de movimentação e respiração. A salivação intensa também é um sintoma comum da intoxicação de animais.

Comigo Ninguém Pode

Presente na decoração de interiores por todo o mundo, a Comigo Ninguém Pode, pode ser muito perigosa. Consistindo em uma planta altamente tóxica, muitos são os casos de animais domésticos que por descuido dos cuidadores acabam colocando a planta na boca. Essa planta possui grande quantidade de oxalato de cálcio, uma substância que pode irritar a pele e as mucosas dos pets.

Como o próprio nome da planta já indica, essa não é flor que se cheire e pode causar irritação, ardor, salivação excessiva e dificuldade de engolir. A ingestão de apenas uma folha pode provocar grandes danos e até a morte do animal.Por isso, atente-se de deixar seu pet bem longe dela.

Costela de Adão 

Com folhas verdes e vistosas, a Costela de Adão é muito usada no paisagismo de jardins e também para decorar muitos lares. Isso porque essa planta produz flores perfumadas e frutos comestíveis. Porém suas folhas são tóxicas e não devem ser ingeridas. 

Os principais sintomas de intoxicação pela planta são irritação e edemas nas mucosas, salivação excessiva, asfixia, vômitos, coceira intensa, queimação e paralisia da língua, e se em contato com os olhos pode ainda lesionar a córnea. 

Copo de leite 

Outra planta bastante popular, o Copo de Leite popular por sua delicadeza, é bastante comum como presente para pessoas queridas. Contudo essa linda flor de curvas suaves e cores delicadas, esconde uma das plantas mais venenosas para cachorro, ela possui o mesmo mecanismo de toxicidade que o Comigo Ninguém Pode, e igual princípio ativo, o oxalato de cálcio. 

Quando ingerida por animais, pode causar irritação das mucosas, dor severa e ainda edema de glote.

Como evitar a intoxicação e quando socorrer

Se você não pretende abrir mão de ter plantinhas em casa, a dica é mantê-las em lugares altos e longe do alcance dos animais. E perto deles, apenas plantas que podem trazer algum benefício nutricional, caso ele resolva experimentar!rs. 

Além disso, preste atenção no seu pet durante o passeio. As vezes parece que vão apenas farejar e quando menos esperamos, estão degustando plantinhas desconhecidas por aí que podem ser perigosas. Portanto, esteja muito atento ao passeio do seu cachorro.

Por fim, vale lembrar que, caso perceba seu animal com mal-estar ou qualquer sintoma mencionado aqui ao ingerir uma planta qualquer, leve-o imediatamente ao veterinário e, se possível, leve a planta ou um galho dela. Isso vai facilitar o socorro assertivo, pois o veterinário pode identificar qual o princípio ativo da intoxicação.
