Olá! Eu sou Débora, mamãe da Nala, uma das embaixadoras do VETEX! Neste post vou falar sobre natação para cachorro. Para quem nos segue, já sabe que uma das atividades que a Nala mais gosta de fazer é nada. Mas, você sabia que nadar além de ser muito divertido é uma das melhores atividades para os cachorros? Isso porque oferece diversas vantagens, tanto para à saúde física como mental. 

É comum que as pessoas pensem que os cães são naturalmente bons nadadores e que basta colocá-los na água que eles já sairão nadando tranquilamente. Mas não é bem assim que funciona. O fato é que algumas raças são naturalmente mais propensas a gostar de água, como a Nala que é uma golden retriever, por exemplo. Outras, podem ter problemas ao ter contato com a água, como as raças de perna curta, como os Dachshunds, e as raças braquicefálicas, como o Buldogue francês e inglês, por exemplo.

Com o verão chegando e as temperaturas subindo, a tendência é que nós tutores procuremos piscinas, lagos e praias, para que os nossos cachorros possam se divertir e se refrescar ao mesmo tempo. Por isso é importante ter certeza de que o seu cachorro se dará bem naquele ambiente e não terá problemas ao entrar na água.

Outro ponto é que mesmo que a raça seja naturalmente um bom nadador, isso não significa que aquele cachorro específico se dará bem com a água logo de cara. Por isso é sempre importante acostumá-lo aos poucos. Fazendo do jeito certo, qualquer cachorro poderá curtir um bom dia de piscina ao lado da família.

Quem tem piscina em casa, deve considerar a atividade para o seu cachorro. Isso porque o exercício é cheio de benefícios para a saúde dele, mas também é uma questão de segurança. Isto é, se ele cair na piscina, sabe muito bem como sair dela. Mas vamos falar sobre outros bons motivos para ensinar o seu cachorro a nadar!

  • Saúde mental do animal – Os cachorros se divertem muito na água e cerca de 30 minutos se movimentando já é o suficiente para o cachorro estimular a produção de serotonina.
  • Ótima para fortalecer os músculos – O exercício se destaca por ser um treino completo para o corpo do animal. Ou seja, ele melhora tanto o condicionamento físico como a capacidade respiratória dele. Abaixo, reuni alguns cuidados que você deve tomar ao levar seu peludo para nadar:

  • Evite locais desconhecidos – Correntezas, buracos e animais silvestres podem afetar o cachorro. Por isso, por mais que ele saiba nadar bem, evite lagos, rios e praias sem sinalização e segurança.
  • Não deixe o cachorro sozinho – Nem todo cachorro sabe nadar. Por isso, no inicio é importante manter-se próximo dele. Aliás, mesmo depois que ele já aprendeu a nadar e esteja em locais seguros, nunca deixe seu cachorro sozinho. Afinal, acidentes acontecem e causam problemas durante o exercício.
  • Utilize coletes salva-vidas – Hoje em dia, em petshops ou Internet, é possível encontrar coletes específicos para cachorro. Ele é excelente para cachorro com medo de água, ou que já esteja ficando cansado, garantindo que ele possa brincar em segurança, principalmente os braquicefálicos e/ou de patas curtas.
  • Atenção à temperatura – Temperaturas baixas prejudicam a imunidade do cachorro, que pode ser contaminado por vírus que causam gripes e outras doenças. Se a piscina ficar em ambiente aberto, esteja atento às altas temperaturas e à exposição ao sol. Já existem protetores solares específicos para cachorro. Por isso, enquanto o cachorro estiver nadando, não o deixe consumir esse líquido. 
  • Sempre busque locais profissionais – Se for buscar a natação como atividade regular para cachorro, procure ambientes profissionais, como clínicas e centros de fisioterapia. Além da supervisão do especialista, esses locais possuem a água tratada da maneira ideal para cachorro. 

Check up

É essencial, antes de qualquer tentativa, levar o cachorro para uma consulta com um médico veterinário de sua confiança para saber se a saúde dele está em dia. Muitos perigos para a saúde também podem estar escondidos na água, como o cloro da piscina ou o sal da água do mar. Devemos estar sempre atentos para que o cachorro não tome água enquanto estiver nadando.

O cuidado com seu cachorro é o maior ato de amor que você pode ter com ele. Então, nada mais justo do que realizar um check-up nele para prevenirmos doenças ou até mesmo identificá-las de forma precoce, aumentando as chances de cura.  

Durante o check-up, os exames, vacinas e vermifugação são colocados em dia. Também será a hora de você contar ao veterinário sobre a rotina do seu cachorro, possíveis alterações de comportamento e sintomas que tenha percebido durante o período.
